Great book!!! I found this to be helpful when I was going through a hard season of my life. I had hurt someone dearly by my words and anger but felt guilty soon after. This person wouldn't forgive me nor give me the time of day. I felt so hurt and disappointed in my actions. I didn't feel that I could ever forgive myself until this person forgave me. After reading this book I felt relief and free. Charles explanation and guidance helped me see otherwise.
Just finished this book and consider it Dr. Stanley's best among the many of his I've read. I started reading it in preparation for giving it to a friend who's going through a difficult time and realized that I needed it for myself, too. He teaches how to forgive others, how to accept God's forgiveness of us and how to understand His forgiveness based on Christ's sacrifice on the cross. As a note ... the second chapter was a little difficult to get through for my level of reading, but I recommend that you push through it. It's so worth it. I highly recommend this book. Didn't find anything that wasn't biblical.
All of Charles Stanley's books are worth reading. This one I haven't actually read myself but got it for a friend and she is enjoying it.
It's one thing to forgive, and another thing to say you've done so and mean it. In this book, Dr. Stanley walks you through the complex web of hurt, both real and imagined. He explains the consequences of holding onto grudges and illustrates his point using anecdotes that we can all relate to.Stanley discusses and analyzes the steps we take to reach the nadir of an unforgiving heart; and he explores the rationales and results, without psychobable nor heavy reliance on scripture. What makes the writing so effective is Stanley's simple and direct approach to problem solving. Dr. Stanley merely takes what we already know and explores it deeper, or debunks it.Once we understand how forgiveness, or lack thereof works, the easier it becomes to forgive. People from all walks of life can learn something from this work.
This book is excellent for those people like me that have a hard time accepting the forgiveness that Christ freely gives. Not by our works but by the free gift of grace that he gives. He loves us. if you have a hard time in your faith this book is a life Changer. I love Dr. Stanley. His preaching ministry helps me so much in my walk he Christ.
Considering that none of us are perfect and need to forgive and be forgiven, this is a very helpful book!
Now I understand how forgiveness is beneficial for my heart. I was able to forgive my ex-husband........I highly recommend this book for those who have been hurt by other people.
This is a terrific little book. Like all of Doctor Stanley's work, it cuts straight through all of the fog and clutter to the core of the issues. It showed me that God had forgiven me and how to let go and forgive those from my "my past". Most importantly Doctor Stanley showed me that if God forgave me, it is OK for me to forgive myself and lay down the guilt for the past.
